High Clearance UTV, a women-owned, family-operated shop in Fayetteville, Arkansas, has been instrumental in helping UTV riders understand the requirements under Act 922, which took effect in August 2025. This law allows Arkansas cities and counties to open roads to side-by-sides, provided specific equipment and driver requirements are met.

Act 922 permits city councils to open streets by ordinance and county judges to do so by executive order. In December 2025, Newton County Judge Warren Campbell issued an order opening public roads in the county's unincorporated areas to UTVs. On October 13, 2026, Boone County Judge Mitchell Archer held a public hearing and indicated that an executive order is likely to follow.

High Clearance UTV, founded in 2021, provides essential services to UTV riders. The shop installs turn signal kits for various models, including Polaris RZR, Polaris Ranger, Polaris General, Can-Am Maverick X3, Honda Pioneer, Honda Talon, and Kawasaki Teryx KRX. They also offer universal kits for other machines. High Clearance UTV installs UTV lighting, turn signals, and electrical upgrades at their Fayetteville location and offers rig pickup within 30 miles.

The law requires UTVs to meet specific equipment and driver requirements. These include: - A UTV 80 inches wide or less, with a steering wheel, non-straddle seats, and rollover protection. - At least two headlamps. - Rear-facing turn signals. - At least one brake light. - Seatbelts. - State registration, with the decal on the driver-side roll bar. - Insurance at the private passenger vehicle minimum, with proof carried in the UTV. - A driver with a valid driver's license.

Riders should be aware that roads with a posted limit over 55 mph, divided four-lane highways, and state park roads remain off-limits. Additionally, ATVs and golf carts are not covered by the law.

High Clearance UTV is located at 1208 W Cato Springs Rd., Fayetteville, AR 72701, and can be reached at 815-953-9346. The shop offers a range of services to ensure UTVs meet the necessary requirements, making it easier for riders to enjoy the roads safely and legally.
