NewHydrogen Files Patent for Advanced ThermoLoop® Technology

In a significant advancement in clean hydrogen technology, NewHydrogen, Inc. has recently filed a third provisional patent application with the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), marking a crucial step toward revolutionizing the hydrogen production industry. The patent, titled "Hydrogen Production in Isothermal Chemical Looping Cycle," builds on the company’s groundbreaking ThermoLoop® technology, which uses inexpensive heat and water to produce hydrogen on an industrial scale.

Based on the collaboration between NewHydrogen and UCSB’s leading materials science team, this latest patent application details recent technological improvements and novel material compositions that significantly enhance the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the ThermoLoop® process. The company’s proprietary approach involves the use of advanced solid-state materials and machine learning-driven material discovery, aiming to optimize the process for maximum output and minimal cost.

Steve Hill, CEO of NewHydrogen, emphasized the importance of this development, stating, "The ETU is the foundation for everything that comes next. It moves us from proving the underlying science to engineering the data set that defines our first pilot plant, and from there, to the kind of scale this market is already being built around."

Currently, NewHydrogen is focused on building its engineering test unit (ETU), a 24/7, hands-free system designed to produce high-resolution data critical for designing a scaled hydrogen plant. The ETU marks a pivotal shift from technology development to data generation, a critical phase in the company’s journey toward commercialization.

According to Goldman Sachs, the clean hydrogen economy is poised for substantial growth, with a projected market value of $12 trillion. Hill further explained, "Our approach using heat directly can dramatically reduce the reliance on expensive electricity. A vast source of inexpensive heat can be obtained from current and future power plants, including small modular nuclear reactors.
