MS2 Launches Software to Continue Traffic Data Collection

ANN ARBOR, Mich., Oct. 22, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- MS2, a TAPCO brand and provider of transportation data management solutions, has launched MS2 Connect, a new software solution designed to help transportation agencies continue collecting critical traffic data after the closure of Diamond Traffic. The software, a Windows desktop application, allows agencies to continue using their existing Diamond traffic counters while simplifying how they collect, manage, and transfer data used to inform roadway planning, infrastructure investments, and traffic safety decisions.

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has mandated that transportation departments in all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico report traffic volume, speed, and vehicle type data to the agency every month. State and local agencies collect this data year-round using detection devices in the field, and FHWA uses the information to assess impacts on highway safety and manage the federal-aid highway program.

The release states that the October 2026 Federal Highway Administration notice mandates that transportation departments in all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico report traffic volume, speed, and vehicle type data to the agency every month. Today, more than 260 agencies across 33 U.S. states and Canada use MS2 software. TAPCO, founded in 1956, manufactures innovative ITS systems and software alongside value-added integration and maintenance services.

The new MS2 Connect software supports both short count and continuous count operations, maintaining most of the functionality of the legacy Diamond Centurion software while introducing additional capabilities to simplify the uploading of traffic count files to MS2's Traffic Count Database System (TCDS). Agencies can continue using their existing Diamond traffic counting equipment without immediately purchasing replacements, support short-term and continuous traffic monitoring operations, and maintain access to familiar counter management functionality.

The software streamlines the process of transferring collected traffic data into MS2's Traffic Count Database System (TCDS), reducing operational disruption and allowing agencies to continue collecting the data they rely on. MS2 Connect extends the life of existing counters, protects agency investments, and helps agencies make better transportation decisions based on better information.

The launch of MS2 Connect represents an important milestone in MS2's broader vision for a Unified Short Count Workflow, which aims to connect every stage of a traffic count program, from scheduling counts and managing fieldwork to collecting, validating, and reporting data. The goal is to reduce manual tasks and speed up the delivery of reliable traffic data for planning and decision-making.

TAPCO, a leading provider of intelligent transportation systems (ITS), is part of the company's roadway safety portfolio, helping agencies turn transportation data into actionable insights that support safer roadways by identifying roadway risks, responding to dangerous situations, and making more informed safety decisions.

The software's introduction is a significant step forward for transportation agencies, as it provides a path forward for those relying on Diamond equipment following its closure in February 2026. MS2 Connect supports a broad range of existing Diamond counters while enabling agencies to connect their collected traffic data with MS2's Traffic Count Database System (TCDS). The software is designed to protect investments and simplify data management, making it easier for agencies to continue collecting and using critical traffic data.

"We are thrilled with the result," said Doe, the chief executive of MS2.
