Kyocera Avx Introduces Smallest High-Performance RF Capacitor

KYOCERA AVX, a global leader in advanced electronic components, has introduced a new ultraminiature 0201 case size to its KGU Series high-performance, ultra-low-ESR C0G (NP0) RF multilayer ceramic chip capacitors (MLCCs). This addition is designed to meet the stringent requirements of next-generation satellite, cellular, and broadband wireless systems, where compact size and reliability are critical.

With the growing demand for compact components that provide consistent and repeatable RF performance in high-frequency circuitry, the field-proven KGU Series now offers a comprehensive suite of RF advantages across five miniature and ultraminiature EIA chip sizes: 01005, 0201, 0402, 0603, and 0805. These advantages include:

- Ultra-Stable Dielectrics: The KGU Series features extremely stable Class I C0G (NP0) ceramic dielectrics, which exhibit a temperature coefficient of capacitance (TCC) of 0±30ppm/°C and virtually zero voltage coefficient. - Advanced Electrodes: Base metal electrodes made of tin/nickel-plated copper provide high electrical conductivity, high capacitance-voltage (CV) capabilities, and excellent solderability. - High-Performance RF Characteristics: The capacitors deliver ultra-low equivalent series resistance (ESR), high power handling, high Q, and high self-resonant frequencies (SRF), ensuring minimal signal loss and precise frequency control. - Consistent Signal Integrity: The components offer inherent immunity to aging and microphonics, ensuring clean signal performance over long operating lifetimes. - High-Reliability Assembly: The KGU Series boasts exceptional thermal and mechanical resilience, effectively eliminating risks such as cracking and tombstoning, thus maximizing production yields.

Rated for 6.3 to 250V and 0.1 to 100pF with tolerances as low as ±0.05pF, the KGU Series operates over a wide temperature range from -55°C to +125°C. Ideal applications for these capacitors include bypass, coupling, DC blocking, matching, and filter networks, as well as tuning circuits and high-Q frequency sources in various wireless devices, including 802.11 Wi-Fi networks, cellular base stations, and public safety radio systems.
