CALGARY, Alberta, Sept. 17, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- The Calgary Flames have announced the addition of Kevin Sawyer to their broadcast team for the 2026-27 Scotiabank Saddledome Farewell Season. Sawyer will join host Brendan Parker and play-by-play voice Jon Abbott in the broadcast booth, bringing extensive experience as both a former NHL player and veteran broadcaster.
Sawyer's career in the NHL spanned six seasons, during which he appeared in 110 games with the St. Louis Blues, Boston Bruins, Phoenix Coyotes, and Anaheim Ducks. His transition to broadcasting follows nearly a decade as a game analyst for Winnipeg Jets regional broadcasts. With the Flames, Sawyer will make his debut on October 1, 2026, calling the Farewell Season opener against the Seattle Kraken at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
Sportsnet will once again be the home of Calgary Flames regional and national broadcasts throughout the Farewell Season. The network is set to deliver its biggest hockey season ever, with a national schedule of 550+ games, including 150 regional blackouts lifted. The Flames will open the regular season on October 1, hosting the Seattle Kraken, before facing the Vancouver Canucks on October 3 for the premiere of Sportsnet’s national Saturday Night Hockey coverage.
"Kevin’s experience, insight, and passion for the game will be a great addition to the Sportsnet broadcast team, and we couldn’t think of a better season to welcome him. There will be no shortage of stories to tell as we celebrate the Farewell Season at the Scotiabank Saddledome, and we look forward to Kevin joining Jon and Brendan to capture the moments and memories that will make this season so special for Flames fans."
The 2026-27 season marks the end of an era for the Flames, as they prepare to say goodbye to the Scotiabank Saddledome after 45 years of hockey. Sawyer's addition to the broadcast team is seen as a significant boost to the Flames' coverage, providing fans with a wealth of knowledge and experience from both the player and broadcaster perspectives.
