Herb "Flight Time" Lang Announces Mayoral Run for Brinkley

Lang's decision to seek public office came after a highway drive from Brinkley to Conway, where his father's encouragement and his mother's support over the past three years finally resonated with him.

Lang, who grew up in Brinkley and was elected senior class president, did not initially plan to return to his hometown for political reasons. However, a voice he heard during the drive convinced him that it was time to lead his community.

Lang's background is unique for a small-town mayoral race. He joined the Harlem Globetrotters in 1999 after leading his conference in scoring and winning the National Association of Basketball Coaches Slam Dunk Contest on ESPN.

Lang's campaign promises to focus on housing and project development, aiming to improve the quality of life for the residents of Brinkley. "Herb spent 18 years showing the world what unity looks like on a basketball court. Now he's going home to try it in a town of 2,700."

Lang's announcement will be featured in an upcoming episode of "Sport-N-Soul," titled "Harlem Globetrotter Meets God's Gang." The episode pairs Lang with Nimrod Avraham May, the Israeli entrepreneur and former Disney executive behind God's Gang, an animated series that promotes young heroes from different faiths and cultures. Their conversation will cover topics such as basketball, world travel, faith, kindness, and the art of leadership.

Lang's decision to run for mayor marks a significant return to his roots. "It definitely wasn't on my bingo card," he admitted.

Lang's campaign is set to lay out its platform on Saturday, September 12, at 12:30 p.m. ET on The NOW Television Network. The episode will be broadcast on "Sport-N-Soul," a weekly faith-based sports television series carried nationally on The NOW Television Network, available in more than 236 million households worldwide.
