TORONTO, Nov. 03, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- This Diwali, Food Basics is celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Ontario’s diverse communities by sharing cherished family recipes in the first edition of its community-sourced cookbook, More Flavours of Home. The initiative aims to preserve and promote traditional cooking techniques that have been passed down through generations.
Vibha Ajwani, a home cook from Scarborough, and Harinder Dhaliwal, a familiar face in Kitchener-Waterloo’s South Asian community, have been selected to contribute their recipes and stories to the cookbook. Vibha’s Kesar Shrikhand, a saffron and cardamom yogurt dessert, is a highlight of her family’s Diwali celebrations.
Harinder Dhaliwal, known for her volunteer work with House of Friendship, shares her Aloo Parantha, a flatbread stuffed with spiced potatoes, which brings her family together at Diwali and throughout the year.
More Flavours of Home builds on the platform Food Basics launched earlier this year, More Flavours of the World, which highlights the thousands of international products on its shelves. The Diwali edition is available free at foodbasics.ca/more-flavours, and every ingredient needed to recreate Vibha’s and Harinder’s dishes can be found in-store and online through Food Basics across Ontario. New editions celebrating Lunar New Year and Ramadan will follow in early 2027.
