MAHWAH, N.J., Oct. 22, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- The Diabetes Foundation and ShopRite Pharmacy have launched a statewide initiative to expand access to affordable diabetes monitoring supplies in New Jersey. This partnership aims to help residents who face financial barriers manage their diabetes more effectively by providing no-cost initial supplies and connecting them with lower-cost replacement options.

The initiative combines the Diabetes Foundation's Supply Assistance program with the availability of affordable replacement supplies at ShopRite pharmacies. Eligible New Jersey residents can receive a blood glucose meter, test strips, a lancing device, and lancets at no cost through the Supply Assistance program. Each starter supply kit provides enough test strips for 100 blood glucose checks, ensuring that individuals who are uninsured, underinsured, or experiencing financial hardship can continue monitoring their glucose levels.

Ginine Cilenti, executive director of the Diabetes Foundation, emphasized the importance of access to the right tools for diabetes management.

Through the partnership, participants who receive a starter kit from the Diabetes Foundation can purchase replacement supplies such as test strips, blood glucose meters, lancing devices, and lancets at a reduced cost at participating ShopRite pharmacies. This arrangement provides participants with a more affordable way to continue blood glucose monitoring beyond the initial assistance period.

Aaron Sapp, Vice President of Pharmacy and Wellness for Wakefern Food Corp., the supermarket cooperative behind the ShopRite brand, expressed the company's commitment to the initiative.

Diabetes affects a significant number of New Jersey residents. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's U.S. Diabetes Surveillance System, 9.1% of New Jersey adults had diagnosed diabetes in 2023. This initiative is crucial in providing accessible resources that support ongoing diabetes management.

The Diabetes Foundation's Emergency Supply Assistance Program offers more information and application details for those who need assistance. Additionally, individuals with unopened, unexpired diabetes supplies they no longer need can learn about donating eligible products to the Diabetes Foundation's supply repository.

By combining immediate assistance with long-term, lower-cost options for supplies, the initiative is designed to help people maintain access to the tools they need to manage their diabetes effectively. This partnership between the Diabetes Foundation and ShopRite Pharmacy is a significant step towards ensuring that individuals facing financial or health care barriers have the resources they need to manage their health and prevent diabetes-related complications.
