Aura Biosciences Strengthens Leadership Team with Inducement Equity Awards
BOSTON, Sept. 01, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Aura Biosciences, a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing a potentially transformative therapy for ocular cancers, has made significant strides in strengthening its leadership team through the granting of inducement equity awards. On September 1, 2026, the company awarded inducement equity to three key executives: Erica Kratz, Ph.D., who was appointed as Chief Regulatory and Quality Officer; Susan Abu-Absi, Ph.D., who joined as Chief Operating Officer; and Julie Person, who was named Chief People Officer.
The inducement equity awards, approved by the Compensation Committee of the Board of Directors, were designed to incentivize these new hires. Dr. Kratz received non-qualified stock options for 199,115 shares and restricted stock units (RSUs) for 100,885 shares, all with an exercise price of $7.43 per share, the closing price of Aura's common stock on the grant date. Dr. Abu-Absi was awarded non-qualified stock options for 265,487 shares and RSUs for 134,513 shares, with the same exercise price. Ms. Person was granted non-qualified stock options for 212,389 shares and RSUs for 107,611 shares, again at the same exercise price.
According to the terms of the awards, the non-qualified stock options for each executive will vest as follows: 25% of each grant will vest on the first anniversary of their start date, with the remaining 75% vesting in 36 equal monthly installments. The RSUs will vest in four equal installments, with 25% vesting on the first anniversary of the grant date, and the remaining 75% vesting on the one-year, two-year, and three-year anniversaries, subject to continued employment.
Aura Biosciences' bel-sar, the therapy being developed, represents a novel approach to treating ocular cancers. The therapy combines acute tumor necrosis with secondary anti-tumor immune activation, offering a potentially groundbreaking solution for patients. The Phase 3 registration study of bel-sar in early choroidal melanoma, the largest patient segment of uveal melanoma, has been fully enrolled, and smaller studies in metastases to the choroid and ocular surface cancers are in progress.
