Z Experience Collective Launches AfterAgile™ to Simplify Product Development

Z Experience Collective, a San Diego-based consultancy, has introduced a new approach to product development called AfterAgile™. This method aims to simplify the traditional Agile process by replacing its numerous meetings and ceremonies with a single, weekly routine designed around customer needs and powered by artificial intelligence (AI).

According to Shannon Sieber, the CEO of Z Experience Collective, the traditional Agile framework has evolved into a process that often prioritizes the coordination of tasks over the actual work itself.

AfterAgile™ is structured around a simple weekly cycle, with six steps spanning from Monday to Thursday. AI plays a crucial role in drafting and moderating these steps, allowing teams to focus on making decisions and delivering value to customers. The process begins on Monday with the setting of intent and intent review. AI drafts the week's intent from customer signals, which is then refined by Customer Experience (CX) and Product teams. Product defends the intent to stakeholders until the group reaches 80 percent consensus. This one conversation replaces the separate planning and grooming sessions typically required in Agile.

On Tuesday, CX, Product, User Experience (UX), and Engineering collaborate in a shared AI-native workspace, testing and building together. There is no separate QA stage, as testing is integrated throughout the development process. Wednesday brings a "ship with a safety net" phase, where the change is deployed to a portion of customers behind a feature flag, with a tested rollback plan ready. Thursday is dedicated to learning and redirecting, with each role reviewing results in their own area. In the afternoon, an AI-moderated session called The Collab turns customer actions into the following Monday’s intent.

Friday is a protected space, open for thinking, exploring, or stepping back. The week closes its own loop every Thursday, eliminating the need for an end-of-sprint retrospective. The method is the same every week, reducing the learning curve and coordination required.

The principle at the heart of AfterAgile™ is that the people who define success are the ones who test for it. Each role owns a part of the answer: CX defines customer needs, Product sets the business case and success measures, UX is responsible for the brand, interface, and workflow, and Engineering maintains the guardrails that keep development safe. There is no separate QA handoff, backlog of tickets, or end-of-sprint retrospective. Every role stays accountable from intent to outcome within the same seven days.

To support teams in adopting AfterAgile™, Z Experience Collective has released the complete 84-page playbook free of charge. The playbook covers the underlying model, weekly practices, team roles, engineering guardrails, AI safety, a one-week pilot plan, and a business case. Teams can adopt the method on their own or work with Z Experience Collective for a one-week pilot.

Two additional tools are in the works. The Dashboard, a planned SaaS product launching in Q1 2027, will provide teams with a single live view of the week’s intent, progress, and results, replacing traditional backlog boards and ticket queues. AfterAgile™ Certification, also planned for later this year, is designed for practitioners in CX, Product, UX, and Engineering.
