ARLINGTON, Va., Oct. 21, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- The American Diabetes Association (ADA) has announced a significant transition in its leadership structure. Rita Kalyani, MD, MHS, who served as the organization's chief scientific and medical officer, has stepped down from her role effective immediately.

Joshua Neumiller, PharmD, CDCES, FADCES, FASCP, the senior vice president of medical affairs at the ADA, has been tasked with assuming expanded responsibilities. Neumiller will continue to oversee the organization's scientific and medical programs, including the ADA's Standards of Care in Diabetes and Scientific Sessions. This move ensures continuity in the organization's mission to advance diabetes research, care, and education.

Charles "Chuck" Henderson, the ADA's chief executive officer, expressed gratitude to Dr. Kalyani for her dedication to the organization's mission over the years.

The ADA is now embarking on a comprehensive search for a permanent chief scientific and medical officer.

The ADA's commitment to its mission of helping people thrive has been a cornerstone of its 86-year history. The organization continues to serve over 155 million Americans living with diabetes or prediabetes, providing resources and support through its website, diabetes.org, and its helpline, 1-800-DIABETES (800-342-2383). The ADA also encourages community engagement throughout the search process to help shape the priorities and qualifications for its next chief scientific and medical officer.

The ADA's focus on advancing the field of diabetes research and care underscores its ongoing commitment to improving the quality of life for individuals affected by diabetes. As the organization looks to the future, it remains dedicated to driving discovery and research, working tirelessly for a cure, and advocating for those impacted by the disease.
