The Seaside Players Community Theater, a non-profit community theater and 501(c)3 in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, Florida, is set to host a unique event on Veterans Day, bringing the voices of veterans to the stage. The theater has created a Zeffy account to raise funds for a staged reading event, which will feature several short plays written by veterans from around the country.

The plays, which will be read four times next week, are set to take place in Jarvis Hall, located at 4505 N. Ocean Blvd., Lauderdale-By-The-Sea. The performances will take place on Veterans Day at 7 PM, and on Friday, November 13, at 7 PM, and on Saturday and Sunday at 4 PM. Admission is free for veterans and their guests, while tickets for the general public cost $10. Proceeds from the event will benefit American Legion Post 142 in Pompano Beach.

The plays, written by veterans who participate in a Theatre for Veterans playwriting workshop run by Propel New Works, a non-profit organization based near Indianapolis, offer a unique perspective on military service. They explore themes such as soldiers returning home, post-traumatic stress disorder, humor, friendship, and marriage. One play even depicts a ghostly Civil War skirmish, adding an intriguing historical element to the performances.

Angeline Larimer, the executive director at Propel New Works, emphasized the importance of these performances.

The Seaside Players Community Theater has been working closely with Propel New Works to ensure that the plays accurately reflect the experiences of veterans. The event is part of a broader initiative to support veterans and raise awareness about the challenges they face upon returning home.

For those interested in attending, the performances will take place in Jarvis Hall, 4505 N. Ocean Blvd., Lauderdale-By-The-Sea. The event is open to the public, with free admission for veterans and their guests. Tickets for the general public are available for $10 and can be purchased through the Zeffy account.

The Seaside Players Community Theater is committed to providing a platform for veterans to share their stories and experiences. By hosting this event, the theater aims to create a space where the public can engage with the realities of military service in a meaningful and emotional way.
