Teens Invited to Create PSA on Dangers of Speeding

NEW YORK, Sept. 22, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- The National Road Safety Foundation, in collaboration with the Chicago Auto Show, has launched the 13th annual Drive Safe Chicago PSA Contest, aimed at engaging teens in promoting safe driving practices. The contest, which runs until December 18, 2026, invites participants to create a 30-second television public service announcement (PSA) that highlights the dangers of speeding.
The contest is open to teens from Chicagoland and throughout Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Iowa. Participants can submit their scripts or written descriptions of their proposed PSAs through the mail or by email. The top three finalists will work with an Emmy Award-winning director to transform their ideas into finished TV PSAs. The public will then vote online to select the winner, who will receive a $2,000 prize. The winning PSA will be broadcast on "Teen Kids News" on more than 160 TV stations nationwide.
Anderson emphasized the importance of educating young drivers about the dangers of speeding. She noted that speeding accounts for about 29 percent of all fatal crashes in the U.S., with 11,775 people dying in speeding-related crashes in 2023.
The contest aims to raise awareness among young drivers about the risks associated with speeding.
The contest also offers prizes for the first and second runners-up. The first runner-up will receive $1,500, and the second runner-up will receive $500. Additionally, the teachers or school advisors of the winner and runners-up will each receive a $100 gift card. All entrants will receive a complimentary ticket to the 2027 Chicago Auto Show, courtesy of the Chicago Automobile Trade Association (CATA).
The Chicago Auto Show, which has been running since 1901, will host the 2027 public show from February 13 to 21, 2027, at McCormick Place. The event is produced by the Chicago Automobile Trade Association, the new-car dealer association for metro Chicago.
The Drive Safe Chicago PSA Contest is part of the foundation's broader efforts to reduce crashes, deaths, and injuries on the nation's highways. By involving young people in the creation of public service announcements, the foundation aims to create a lasting impact on driving behavior and safety.
