Teamsters Local 696 Endorses Senator Roger Marshall for Re-election

Teamsters Local 696 has officially endorsed Senator Roger Marshall (R-KS) for re-election to the U.S. Senate, a move that aligns the senator with the interests of labor unions and their members in Kansas.

“Senator Marshall has shown time and again that he is a friend of labor,” said Sean M. O'Brien, General President of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. “As a member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, he has been proactive in partnering with us on legislation that protects workers, even when it requires him to break from his party’s stance. We are looking forward to continuing our collaboration with Senator Marshall to champion the rights of hardworking Americans.”

Marshall’s endorsement by Teamsters Local 696 is part of a broader strategy by the union to support candidates who prioritize labor interests. The senator is a co-sponsor of several pro-labor bills, including the Faster Labor Contracts Act and the Warehouse Worker Protection Act. He is also an original sponsor of the Railway Safety Act.

“Kansas Teamsters are proud to endorse the candidate who continues to be a voice for the middle-class workers of our state, and that candidate is Senator Marshall,” said Mike Scribner, President of Local 696. “We need someone in Washington who is willing to fight on behalf of our workers. Senator Marshall has demonstrated through his actions that he is the person for the job.”

Senator Marshall has also been involved in efforts to hold Amazon accountable for its DSP subcontractor business model. He has co-led a bipartisan letter to the Surface Transportation Board, expressing concern over the proposed Union Pacific merger with Norfolk Southern and demanding the highest level of regulatory scrutiny to protect workers and the freight rail system.

Teamsters Local 696 represents workers in various trades in Topeka and throughout Kansas. Founded in 1903, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters now represents over 1.3 million hardworking people in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico.

This endorsement comes as Teamsters Local 696 seeks to maintain its strong presence in the political arena, advocating for the rights and interests of its members and the broader working class in Kansas and beyond.
