Sustaira Launches AI Tools to Streamline Sustainability Workflows

News related to:Sustaira · 2 min read

Sustaira, a company focused on accelerating sustainability impact, has launched a new suite of artificial intelligence (AI) tools designed to streamline and enhance the efficiency of sustainability workflows. The launch includes an AI Agent Factory and a Control Console, which together aim to reduce the manual effort required in sustainability data management, reporting, and recurring processes.

The AI Agent Factory builds and tests specialized AI agents to support practical sustainability workflows. These agents include Document-to-Carbon-Accounting, Table-to-Carbon-Accounting, Emission-Factor-Mapping, Document-to-Knowledge-Base, Document-to-Structured-Questionnaire, and Question-Answering Agent. Each agent is designed to automate repetitive tasks, such as extracting activity data from invoices and utility bills, structuring and standardizing information from tables and spreadsheets, and identifying suitable emission factors.

According to Quinten van der Leest, an AI Engineer at Sustaira, the real value of AI lies in understanding where teams spend their time and what operational bottlenecks hold them back.

The Control Console, which oversees the operation of the AI agents, provides organizations with a platform to configure workflows, determine where human approval is required, apply policy-based guardrails, and manage security settings. This ensures that organizations retain control over how AI is used and where decisions require human judgment. The Console also makes usage, performance, spend, and value more visible, helping organizations assess output quality, identify where human intervention is needed, and evaluate potential time savings and cost reductions.

Sustaira's approach is built around five principles: traceable and auditable AI, consistency over perfection, communicating uncertainty, integration with the wider sustainability platform, and human accountability. These principles reflect a practical reality of enterprise AI: generating an answer is not enough. Sustainability outputs must be grounded in relevant information, checked against defined requirements, and connected to the workflows where teams operate.

The company claims that its AI tools can reduce the workload in applicable workflows by at least 40%. Sustaira aims to double that impact, further reducing the manual effort involved in sustainability data management, reporting, and recurring processes. Rather than requiring organizations to replace existing systems, Sustaira's modular approach enables AI capabilities to complement current sustainability solutions, enterprise infrastructure, and data environments. Organizations can start with a specific workflow, adapt it to their requirements, and expand as their needs evolve.
