Sunward Federal Credit Union Expands Scholarship Program to Support Five Students
Sunward Federal Credit Union has awarded $25,000 in scholarships to five students across the Southwest, marking a significant expansion in the credit union's scholarship program.
Established in 1995, the Sunward Scholarship encourages financial literacy and wellness among student members. This year, the scholarship saw a $10,000 increase in funding, supporting two additional students and totaling $25,000. The expanded funding reflects Sunward's commitment to empowering more students in their pursuit of higher education.
The five recipients, hailing from diverse backgrounds, include: - Maureen Ford, a student from Fruitland, New Mexico, pursuing a bachelor's degree in Human Health at Emory University. - Victoria Shaner, from Rio Rancho, New Mexico, studying Psychology and Health, Medicine & Human Values at the University of New Mexico. - Mateo Bedolla, from Tracy, California, aiming for a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and a master's degree in Teaching at the University of Massachusetts Global. - Marisol Olivas, attending New Mexico State University and seeking a master's degree in Agriculture – Agribusiness. - Thadeus Walsh, a student from Fort Collins, Colorado, pursuing a bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering at the University of Arizona.

Over 170 students participated in this year's scholarship essay contest, highlighting the significant interest and commitment to financial literacy among young adults. The essay prompt required students to discuss how financial literacy supports personal and community well-being by addressing at least two ways financial knowledge can help navigate life's challenges.

Sunward Federal Credit Union, serving over 175,000 members with assets exceeding $4.5 billion, remains committed to its community through various initiatives.
