NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev., Oct. 23, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- FuturEdge Academy, a public charter school operated by 100 Academy of Excellence, has announced its closure at the conclusion of the 2026-27 school year. The decision comes after the Nevada State Public Charter School Authority (SPCSA) terminated the school's charter contract. The closure is in accordance with Nevada's charter school laws, specifically Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS) 388A.306 and Nevada Administrative Code (NAC) 388A.355, which outline the procedures for closing charter schools and related requirements.
FuturEdge Academy, which has provided educational opportunities for local students and families through its charter authorization with the Nevada State Public Charter School Authority, will now be replaced by a new public charter school, AMS North Vegas. The new school will be located at the existing campus and will serve kindergarten through eighth grade for the 2027-28 school year. AMS North Vegas will operate as a separate entity, offering families an opportunity to explore a new educational option in their community.
The closure of FuturEdge Academy is a significant transition for the students, families, educators, and staff who have been part of its school community. The current principal of FuturEdge Academy, Kristen Guthrie, will serve as the incoming principal of AMS North Vegas. Guthrie expressed gratitude to the families who have trusted FuturEdge with their children's education and to the dedicated teachers and staff who have made the school such a special community. While FuturEdge's chapter is coming to a close, Guthrie remains committed to her students and families, and she is excited to continue serving the community as AMS North Vegas opens.
FuturEdge Academy is working with the SPCSA to fulfill the necessary closure requirements and provide families with information regarding student records, educational options, and transition resources.
Looking ahead, Academies of Math and Science (AMS) plans to open AMS North Vegas, a new tuition-free public charter school, at the existing campus for the 2027-28 school year. AMS North Vegas will offer families an opportunity to explore a new educational option in their community, and additional details regarding enrollment, campus programming, and informational events will be shared by AMS as plans are finalized.
