Sungrow Launches New Manufacturing Facility in Egypt

CAIRO, Sept. 3, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Sungrow, a global leader in energy storage solutions, has taken a significant step in deepening its commitment to Egypt by launching a new manufacturing facility in the Suez Canal Economic Zone. The facility, scheduled to start operations in June 2027, is designed to produce 10 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of energy storage systems annually. This move is part of Sungrow’s broader strategy to support Egypt’s renewable energy initiatives and bolster its local manufacturing capabilities.

The new facility will initially support the Sustainable Energy Valley project in Minya Governorate, a joint venture between the Egyptian government and Norwegian renewable energy company Scatec. Sungrow will supply 4 GWh of energy storage systems to this project, which is aimed at advancing Egypt’s renewable energy infrastructure. This development marks a crucial milestone in Sungrow’s efforts to contribute to the country’s clean energy transition.

In line with its commitment to localized manufacturing, Sungrow has also recently played a pivotal role in the Abydos Phase II solar-plus-storage project in Aswan Governorate. The company supplied 1.2 gigawatts (GW) of photovoltaic (PV) capacity and 720 megawatt-hours (MWh) of energy storage, making the project the largest single-site integrated solar-plus-storage facility in Africa once fully operational. This project further underscores Sungrow’s significant contributions to Egypt’s clean energy landscape.

According to Thompson Meng, Vice President of Sungrow, the establishment of the new facility is part of the company’s strategy to enhance delivery efficiency and provide more responsive support for renewable energy projects in the region. "By setting up localized manufacturing capabilities, we are not only boosting our delivery efficiency but also enabling faster and more flexible support for renewable energy projects across the Middle East and Africa," Meng stated.

Meng further emphasized that successful localization extends beyond a manufacturing facility. "We are committed to working closely with local companies and stakeholders to further deepen local supply chain collaboration. This partnership will accelerate Egypt’s clean energy transition and share our renewable energy expertise and technologies, nurturing local talent and unlocking Egypt’s full potential as Africa’s leading renewable energy hub," he added.

This new facility and its associated projects are expected to play a critical role in Egypt’s ambitious clean energy goals, contributing to the country’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions and enhance its energy security.
