SHARJAH, UAE, Sept. 7, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- The Sharjah Government has launched the 13th edition of the Sharjah Government Communication Award, opening submissions for organizations and individuals worldwide until September 22, 2026. This year’s competition marks a significant shift in focus, with a particular emphasis on the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in communication strategies.

The expanded scope of the award, which includes more than 35 categories such as government and international organizations, the private sector, individual achievements, and smart communication competitions, aims to foster innovation and excellence in communication practices. Previous entries have showcased diverse projects, from Tuvalu’s initiative to become the world's first digital nation to combat climate change, to youth entrepreneurship programs in Nigeria and an AI platform connecting experts across Africa and the United States.

This year, the competition has introduced a new category: Best Use of Artificial Intelligence in Government and Institutional Communication. Entries in other categories may also receive up to 10 percent extra points for effectively integrating AI. The jury will assess how AI has been applied in planning, implementation, and evaluation, considering its impact on content, audience understanding, and communication efficiency.

The award, launched by the Sharjah Government Media Bureau, has seen a marked increase in international participation. In 2025, it received more than 2,600 submissions from 37 countries, with over 600 entries progressing beyond the initial screening stage and 170 reaching the final evaluation. The 13th edition aims to highlight initiatives that not only communicate effectively but also demonstrate tangible outcomes and sustained impacts.

Additionally, the competition has introduced a new subcategory: Best Campaigns Promoting Emirati Identity. The jury will evaluate entries based on their ability to showcase the rich cultural heritage and diverse national identity of the Emirate of Sharjah. Entries will be judged on their creativity, relevance, and effectiveness in engaging the audience.

Hussain AlMulla, Senior Executive Media Relations at the Sharjah Press Club, stated, "We are excited to see how organizations and individuals will leverage AI to enhance their communication strategies. The submissions this year will undoubtedly showcase innovative approaches and impactful results."

The Sharjah Government Media Bureau is seeking entries that can demonstrate the transformative power of communication through AI, highlighting not only the effectiveness of campaigns but also the positive changes they have brought about.
