CINCINNATI, Sept. 08, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- The Scripps Howard Fund, celebrating its 10-year anniversary, has launched a special campaign to boost childhood literacy. For the next two days, donations to the "If You Give a Child a Book …" initiative will be doubled, providing a unique opportunity to support the distribution of books to underprivileged children.
On September 8 and 9, every dollar donated will go twice as far, effectively tripling the impact of each contribution. A $12 donation will now provide four books instead of two, underscoring the Fund's commitment to building home libraries and fostering a love of reading among children in low-income schools.
The campaign, supported by The E.W. Scripps Company, Scripps employees, and local communities, aims to distribute free books to students who are still developing their reading skills. Since its inception in 2016, the initiative has already distributed its 2 millionth book, marking a significant milestone in its decade-long journey.
Carrie High, senior director of philanthropic strategies for the Scripps Howard Fund, expressed gratitude for the support received over the years. "Every gift helps a child build a home library of their own, opening the door to greater confidence, a lifelong love of reading, and all the possibilities that books can inspire," she said.
The Fund sponsors free Scholastic Book Fairs for partner Title I schools across the country. These book fairs, which occur throughout the school year, provide students with the opportunity to choose age-appropriate books to take home and build their personal libraries. The goal is to ensure that every student in the low-income schools supported by the Fund receives 10 books annually.
As part of its efforts, the Scripps Howard Fund aims to reach underserved children and support local communities. Through its annual campaign, the Fund not only provides books but also raises awareness of local issues and supports organizations that contribute to the well-being of children.
