ROHM Semiconductor Unveils High-Power 0402 Chip Resistors

ROHM Semiconductor has unveiled a new line of high-performance chip resistors designed to meet the growing demands of the automotive, industrial, and consumer electronics markets. The SDR01 Series, which includes resistors in the 0402 size, boasts a rated power of 0.33W, setting a new standard for compact, high-power handling components.

Developed to address the increasing need for components that can handle higher power while maintaining compact dimensions, the SDR01 Series is particularly suited for use in power supply circuits and around interfaces where resistance to surges and electrostatic discharge (ESD) is crucial. These resistors are also essential for applications requiring high reliability, such as those found in automotive, industrial, and consumer electronics.

"These resistors not only meet the high-power demands of modern electronic devices but also ensure reliable operation in demanding thermal environments."

The new resistors are designed to reduce board space and component count by enabling the replacement of larger resistors. This feature is particularly beneficial in high-density mounting scenarios and areas around heat-generating components, helping to simplify the thermal design process. Additionally, the SDR01 Series offers a temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) of ±100ppm/°C for resistances ranging from 10Ω to 2.2MΩ, ensuring stable circuit operation under varying temperature conditions.

"By achieving both high power handling and high reliability in a small form factor, the SDR01 Series addresses a critical need in the industry," Mueller explained. "These resistors are ideal for use in power supply and control circuits, where compact size, high power handling, and high reliability are paramount."

ROHM Semiconductor has already begun mass production of the SDR01 Series, with online sales now available through the company’s online store and major distributors such as DigiKey and Farnell. The new resistors are expected to contribute significantly to the miniaturization, higher power handling, and improved reliability of electronic equipment in various sectors.
