Rockwood Retirement Communities Plans New Campus in Liberty Lake, Washington

Rockwood Retirement Communities, a mission-driven nonprofit organization, has announced plans to develop a new senior living campus in Liberty Lake, Washington. The proposed 260-residence community will be the third Life Plan campus under the Rockwood umbrella, joining Rockwood South Hill and Rockwood at Whitworth. This expansion aims to extend Rockwood’s mission-driven approach to vibrant lifestyle offerings for seniors to eastern Spokane County.

Located within the River District development in Liberty Lake, the project will be situated near the established Trutina at River District community. Rockwood is currently undertaking due diligence, business planning, and preliminary design activities. Construction is not anticipated to commence until late 2028, with first occupancy targeted for 2030. The project is expected to cost over $275 million and will create more than 100 full-time jobs upon completion.

The Liberty Lake campus will feature approximately 200 independent living residences, 36 assisted living apartments, and 24 memory care residences. Amenities will include multiple dining venues, fitness and wellness spaces, outdoor areas, and gathering spaces designed to support an active, connected lifestyle with opportunities for lifelong learning and healthy living.

The Liberty Lake community is situated near more than 25 miles of multi-use trails, three golf courses, and public access to the Spokane River. Additionally, nearby Liberty Lake Regional Park offers extensive outdoor recreation. The community also benefits from convenient access to Spokane and Coeur d'Alene, providing residents with a wide range of dining, entertainment, and recreational opportunities that support an active, engaged lifestyle.

Rockwood is working with Greystone, a senior living consulting firm, to provide strategic advisory and development consulting services as the project progresses. As planning advances, Rockwood expects to engage with prospective residents, community stakeholders, local leaders, existing Rockwood residents, and others interested in the project. Additional information about the community, including design timing and future reservation opportunities, will be shared as the project moves through the planning and development process.

Rockwood Retirement Communities, founded in 1961, has served the Inland Northwest for over 65 years, promoting independence, wellness, and lifelong vitality. The organization operates two Life Plan communities, Rockwood South Hill and Rockwood at Whitworth, and Appleway Court, an affordable senior housing community in Spokane Valley.
