LOS ANGELES, Nov. 4, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- ReddiNet, a technology firm that connects hospitals, EMS, first responders, public health, and emergency management agencies, has launched a groundbreaking statewide system in California. The Hospital Bed and Emergency Data System (HBEDS) provides near real-time visibility into hospital bed capacity, replacing the outdated manual reporting process.
HBEDS, launched in collaboration with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), automates the collection of capacity data directly from participating hospitals' electronic health record systems. This system refreshes data every 15 minutes, ensuring that healthcare and government leaders have the most up-to-date information on hospital bed availability. This rapid update frequency is crucial for managing patient flow, coordinating resources, and responding to emergencies.
George Greene, president and CEO of the Hospital Association of Southern California (HASC), highlighted the importance of HBEDS.
HASC, a not-for-profit 501(c)(6) regional trade association, selected ReddiNet in June 2026 to operate the statewide HBEDS system. The onboarding process began in August and is expanding across California's general acute care hospitals. Authorized users can access staffed capacity data at the facility, county, regional, and state levels, providing a comprehensive view of hospital resources.
Tammi McConnell, MSN, RN, senior vice president of ReddiNet, emphasized the benefits of the new system.
HBEDS meets federal hospital capacity reporting requirements and supports state reporting. This automation frees hospital staff from the burden of manual data entry, allowing them to focus more on patient care. The system is designed to scale beyond California, making it available to other states seeking automated, near real-time visibility into hospital capacity.
ReddiNet, a service of the Hospital Association of Southern California, connects various stakeholders in the healthcare ecosystem. Its newest module, HBEDS, is a testament to the organization's commitment to improving emergency communications, healthcare operations, and situational awareness.
