Priority Tire, an online tire retailer based in Jacksonville, Florida, is offering a $10,000 scholarship to students for addressing a critical aspect of driving safety: the importance of checking blind spots. The initiative, part of the Safe Roads, Strong Futures Scholarship program, aims to highlight why blind spots remain a significant hazard for new drivers, despite their potential to prevent accidents.

According to Dimitri Chernyak, President of Priority Tire, "Mirrors only tell part of the story. We're asking students to explore why so many drivers still get this wrong, and what it would take to change that. It's a small habit that could make a real difference in how many accidents happen on the road."

The scholarship program, open to students until December 1, 2026, invites participants to submit essays on the topic. The submissions should be between 500 and 700 words and must be entirely the work of the applicant. Priority Tire will award a total of $10,000 across three winners: first place receives $5,000, second place gets $3,000, and third place takes home $2,000.

Chernyak explains that even with properly adjusted mirrors, blind spots remain a significant blind spot (pun intended). "Add distractions like phones, passengers, or unfamiliar roads, and the odds of a new driver skipping that final check increase," he adds.

Priority Tire operates across the United States, maintaining multiple warehouses and offering a range of tires for various vehicles, from passenger cars to electric vehicles and specialty vehicles. The company, founded over 20 years ago, is now expanding its focus to address broader aspects of road safety.

Submissions are evaluated based on originality, clarity, and analysis. The use of AI-generated content is strictly prohibited, and documents should be shared with edit access for the team to review.

The initiative underscores the company's commitment to road safety and the importance of educating new drivers about critical safety checks. By identifying and addressing blind spots, Priority Tire hopes to contribute to a safer driving environment for all.
