OSCP integrates ArduPilot support into MK2 family of IMUs

LAS VEGAS, September 1, 2026, OSCP, a leading provider of inertial measurement units (IMUs), has announced the integration of ArduPilot support into its MK2 family of IMUs. This development, announced at the Commercial UAV Expo in Las Vegas, will enable drone makers to enhance the navigation capabilities of their unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

On September 1, 2026, OSCP released a downloadable ArduPilot control program for its MK2 family on docs.oscp.com, alongside integration documentation, a C SDK, and Python examples. This program allows each MK2 unit to connect to an ArduPilot system via standard RS-422 or CAN-FD interfaces. Drone enthusiasts can start with the MK2M2, a MEMS unit measuring 40mm x 40mm x 25mm, weighing 75 grams, and consuming 1.2 watts, and then transition to the photonics-based MK2E2 for tactical performance, using the same control program and interfaces.

The photonics-based option is particularly crucial for drones due to its resistance to vibrations. MEMS gyroscopes are sensitive to acceleration and generate additional errors under vibrations and sustained acceleration. OSCP’s photonics technology, on the other hand, maintains bias stability.

In a published test, the OSCP photonics IMU achieved a ground truth altitude of 5.7 meters after 21 minutes of denied satellite position, gyroscope navigation, and a one-hertz speed input without filtering, compared to a MEMS unit with identical support at 20.5 meters.
