New York Cancer & Blood Specialists Welcomes Dr. Garry Lachhar

New York Cancer & Blood Specialists has expanded its medical team with the addition of Dr. Garry Lachhar, a medical oncologist-hematologist. Dr. Lachhar will begin his practice at the NYCBS office in Smithtown, New York, starting September 8, 2026.
Dr. Lachhar brings a wealth of experience and dedication to evidence-based patient care to the organization. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from St. George’s University and completed a Bachelor of Science in Biology at Stony Brook University. His professional journey includes an Internal Medicine Residency at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, where he served as Chief Resident and was recognized as both Internal Medicine Resident of the Year and Overall Resident of the Year for the Class of 2023. He then completed his Hematology and Medical Oncology Fellowship at Mather Hospital.
“Dr. Lachhar’s expertise will significantly strengthen our mission of delivering high-quality cancer care to patients throughout New York,” said Dr. Jeff Vacirca, CEO of NYCBS.
Dr. Lachhar is committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care to his patients. He has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed publications and national presentations spanning hematology, oncology, pulmonary medicine, cardiovascular medicine, and critical care. He has received multiple first-place awards at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s Annual Research Day and serves on the Stony Brook University Alumni Association Board of Directors and the St. George’s University School of Medicine Alumni Association Board of Trustees. He is also an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, the American Medical Association, and the American College of Physicians.
