Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback wins 2027 Green SUV of the Year
Franklin, Tenn. – Mitsubishi Motors has once again demonstrated its commitment to the electric vehicle (EV) market with the introduction of the 2027 Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback, which has been named the 2027 Green SUV of the Year by Green Car Journal (GCJ). This accolade marks the fifth time the brand has won the prestigious award since the program's inception.
The Eclipse Sportback, an all-electric model, is set to debut in October 2026, continuing Mitsubishi's legacy in battery electric vehicles. The vehicle joins the brand's existing lineup of electrified models, including the Outlander mild-hybrid and Outlander Plug-in Hybrid, which are already available in showrooms.

The new model is equipped with a 75 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that provides a range of 282 miles. Charging options are versatile, with the vehicle compatible for both Level 1 and Level 2 charging using the SAE J1772 format, and Level 3 charging with Tesla's NACS format. This flexibility ensures that owners can charge their vehicle at home or in public charging networks with ease.
Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) is executing its multi-year business plan, Momentum 2030, which aims to add electrification across the brand's lineup. The award for the Eclipse Sportback aligns with the plan's goals of introducing new or renewed vehicles on an annual basis through 2030. The vehicle will join the mild-hybrid Outlander and Plug-in Hybrid Outlander models in Mitsubishi showrooms, offering customers a choice of three separate electrified powertrain options.

Mitsubishi's journey towards electrification dates back to the 1970s, when it first started developing fully electric vehicles in Japan. The world's first mass-produced electric vehicle, the i-MiEV, was launched in 2009 and arrived in North America in 2011. The Outlander PHEV, the world's first plug-in hybrid SUV, followed in 2012 and arrived in North America in 2018. The Eclipse Sportback continues this legacy, providing a modern electric vehicle with a focus on convenience and environmental performance.
