Miirage Unveils Holographic AI Assistants for Public Spaces

Miirage, a UK-based technology company, is poised to revolutionize the way artificial intelligence (AI) interacts with the public. The firm is developing life-sized holographic AI assistants that will soon be deployed in various public spaces, marking a significant step in making AI more accessible and human-like.

Founded by James Butler, Miirage has spent years refining holographic displays that make digital characters and objects appear physically present. Now, the company is ready to unveil conversational holographic AI avatar assistants. These assistants will be capable of answering questions, providing directions, and offering information in a manner that feels natural and intuitive.

Imagine walking into a shopping centre and asking a holographic concierge for directions to a specific store. The hologram could respond aloud, display directions, and even answer follow-up questions. At an airport, a multilingual avatar could explain facilities or direct passengers towards services. In a retail store, a digital representative could introduce products and provide information on demand. Unlike traditional apps, these holographic assistants would not require visitors to download software, create an account, or navigate a series of menus. They could simply walk up, ask their question, and continue their day.

The technology behind Miirage's holographic AI assistants is impressive. The company's Miracle display uses 4K transparent LCD technology, a physical depth enclosure, and specially created content to produce a hologram-like effect without the need for glasses or headsets. Integrated computing, audio, and interactive capabilities allow the holograms to respond to visitors rather than simply play video. To create a believable digital human, Miirage focuses on scale, lighting, shadows, reflections, and natural movement. Additionally, the holograms need accurate information, dependable speech recognition, accessible interactions, and a way to direct visitors to human staff when necessary.

Miirage sees the potential to bring together customer service, venue information, and retail media. A holographic display could present advertising or branded content when idle, then become a conversational assistant when approached. For shopping centres, airports, and other public venues, one installation could potentially serve several purposes throughout the day.

The company's previous installations have already laid a solid foundation for its upcoming projects. These include an interactive Christmas gingerbread character for Jo Malone London, a three-display T. rex experience at Melbourne Museum, a display at Selfridges, interactive presentations at Epic Games' London Innovation Lab, staff communication at SABIC, and a motion-capture-driven character for a Saudi Ministry of Defense event. Industry publication invidis has independently covered its Melbourne Museum and Selfridges appearances.

According to Butler, 2027 will be a defining year for Miirage as it brings together world-class holographic technology and conversational AI on a much larger scale.

The ambition for 2027 is less about staging a spectacle and more about making digital humans useful in ordinary environments. Miirage is preparing for its first commercial AI assistant deployments, aiming for wider international adoption. The company believes that these holographic AI assistants will become the visual face of artificial intelligence in the physical world, transforming how people see, communicate, and interact with AI.
