Kung Fu Kids®, a martial arts and child development brand with more than 20 years of history and 10,000 students, is expanding its reach nationwide by opening franchise territories. The company, founded by David and Liz Chang, is now recruiting franchise owners across the United States.

The brand has a strong presence in the Bay Area, with company-owned schools in Palo Alto, Berryessa, Pleasanton, and on Capitol Expressway in San Jose. Over the past two decades, Kung Fu Kids has evolved from a single student in a garage to a network of schools focused on child development through martial arts. The mission has shifted from competition and belts to fostering confident, focused, respectful, and resilient young people.

The first franchise location in Mountain View has been operating successfully for the last 12 months. This success has paved the way for two new franchisees, Kyle Chang and Archies Kulkarni, who are launching schools in their local communities. Kyle Chang, a third-generation Kung Fu Kids student, earned his black belt at the age of 12 and later became a paid part-time instructor at 14. He has since helped welcome new families through one-on-one evaluations and built his own digital marketing agency. Archies Kulkarni, who first stepped onto the mat at seven, earned her second-degree black belt and began coaching at 16. After graduating from San Jose State University with a communications and legal studies degree, she chose to open her own Kung Fu Kids location.

Kung Fu Kids is designed for executive ownership, where owners focus on community relationships, team leadership, marketing oversight, and financial performance. A Head Coach and a small team of two to four instructors deliver the daily class experience. The brand recruits instructors for character, energy, and a love of working with children, then trains them in the Kung Fu Kids method.

The business model is built on recurring monthly memberships, with additional revenue from birthday parties, Parents' Night Out events, camps, seasonal programs, special events, and retail. Schools typically occupy 2,000 to 3,000 square feet in family-friendly retail or flex spaces near neighborhoods, schools, and grocery-anchored centers, with a straightforward buildout.

To support its national expansion, Kung Fu Kids has partnered with BrandONE, a franchise development consultancy that works with franchisors to sustainably grow enterprise value. Entrepreneurs interested in bringing Kung Fu Kids to their community can learn more about available territories by contacting David Chang.
