KCRAR backs Ballot Question One for affordable housing

Kansas City, Missouri, The Kansas City Regional Association of REALTORS® (KCRAR) has thrown its support behind Ballot Question One, which would authorize the city to issue up to $100 million in General Obligation Bonds for affordable housing and blight remediation. The endorsement comes as the August Primary Election approaches, with the ballot question set to appear on the November general election ballot.

"Working families, teachers, healthcare workers, first responders, and young professionals deserve access to affordable housing," said James Toy, Senior Vice President of Government Affairs for the KCRAR. "Ballot Question One presents a historic opportunity for Kansas City to address long-standing issues of housing affordability and neighborhood revitalization."

The KCRAR has committed $25,000 to Together KC's voter education campaign, aimed at informing voters about all five ballot questions. The organization believes that the measure will provide critical resources to expand housing options, revitalize neighborhoods, and support economic growth.

"Together KC's voter education effort is crucial in helping voters understand the importance of this measure," Toy emphasized. "Affordable housing and neighborhood revitalization are essential for the long-term success of our city."

The KCRAR also praised Mayor Quinton Lucas and the Kansas City Council for their leadership in advancing the proposal. "Their vision for meaningful investment in housing and neighborhood revitalization is commendable," Toy added. "This proposal will allow voters to make a lasting investment in the city's future."

"Their endorsement and financial support will play a significant role in ensuring that Ballot Question One receives the attention it deserves."

The measure, if passed, would fund a range of initiatives aimed at providing affordable housing options and addressing blighted areas throughout the city. Toy highlighted the potential positive impacts, stating, "This measure will help create opportunities for families, strengthen communities, and support a more vibrant future for Kansas City."
