"When I became a widow, I went looking for a 'how-to' book," Tilton said. "All I found were grief books written by very educated authors who had a lot of head knowledge, but no heart knowledge. You only gain heart knowledge by walking the path."

This unmet need inspired Tilton to write her own book, drawing from her personal experiences and her work as the Insurance Coordinator for Katy Independent School District. In this role, she has supported and counseled hundreds of widows, giving her a unique perspective on both the emotional and practical challenges faced by families after a loss.

Today, I Bought Bananas explores the loneliness, uncertainty, and ordinary moments that take on new significance after the death of a spouse. The book offers a candid and personal look at how even a simple task like buying groceries can reveal the profound changes in one's life. Tilton's message to widows is clear: "You are not alone. Tilton's understanding of widowhood extends beyond her personal experience. She is also the founder and leader of 'The Journey Girls', a widow-support group of approximately 40 women who gather regularly for friendship, encouragement, faith, and community. Through the group, she has helped many women face the difficult road of widowhood without walking it alone.

The book is not only for widows but also offers valuable insight to relatives, friends, church leaders, and community members who want to better understand and support the widows in their lives. Tilton's Christian faith plays a significant role in her life and service, as she seeks to point others toward Christ through her words, compassion, and example.
