Investment in GHGSat for Satellite-Based Greenhouse Gas Monitoring

MONTREAL, November 6, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- In October 2026, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, MUFG Bank, Ltd., and Climate Investment invested in convertible notes issued by GHGSat Incorporated, a company that pioneered high-resolution greenhouse gas (GHG) remote sensing from space. Founded in 2011 and headquartered in Québec, Canada, GHGSat has been at the forefront of monitoring emissions from individual industrial facilities, providing emissions intelligence to companies, governments, regulators, and investors.

To address the growing need for accurate identification and quantification of GHGs, Mitsubishi Electric, MUFG Bank, and GHGSat entered into a partnership agreement in November 2024. The partnership aims to develop a service that uses data from the Global Observing SATellite for Greenhouse gases and Water cycle (IBUKI GW) and GHGSat's satellite constellation to visualize GHG emissions and identify emission sources. IBUKI GW, launched on June 29, 2025, is well-suited for wide-area observations, while GHGSat's satellite constellation provides facility-level observations.

This collaboration will establish "tip and cue" operations, where IBUKI GW will conduct wide-area observations to identify areas with suspected GHG emissions and provide "tips" on potential emission sources. These tips will then be used to send observation requests, or "cues," to GHGSat's satellite constellation, triggering high-resolution localized observations of the relevant locations. Mitsubishi Electric will serve as the prime contractor for this initiative, which has been selected for JOGMEC's fiscal 2026 public solicitation for a technology verification project.

MUFG Bank believes that satellite data can increase the transparency of decarbonization initiatives and help create fair markets. By supporting the development of the tip and cue service, MUFG Bank aims to enable efficient and highly accurate identification of GHG emission sources and quantification of emissions. Climate Investment, an independently managed specialist investor focused on decarbonization technologies, has invested in GHGSat to support its business growth. Climate Investment manages $1.8 billion of total committed capital between its venture and growth strategies, focusing on decarbonization of energy, industry, transport, and the built environment. Since 2017, Climate Investment has invested in over 45 climate tech companies, collectively delivering 208 million metric tons of cumulative GHG reductions and over $600 million in operational value to its limited partners from 2019 to 2025.

Through this investment, the parties will further strengthen their partnership, accelerate the development of the tip and cue service, and contribute to climate change mitigation by helping visualize actual GHG emissions, enhancing transparency.
