The intelliGEN Group has been selected to join the acceleration program of the Net Zero Innovation Hub for Data Centers, a program backed by industry leaders including APL, Danfoss, Data4, ENGIE, Google, Microsoft, Schneider Electric, and Vertiv. This partnership aims to address the growing demand for clean power in data centers, a critical issue in the European market where grid utilities are struggling to meet the escalating power needs of these facilities.
The Net Zero Innovation Hub for Data Centers, a collaborative initiative that unites leaders across the data center industry, brings together data center hyperscalers, colocation companies, solution providers, technology innovators, power providers, and policymakers. This hub serves as a platform to identify, test, and de-risk new technologies, with the goal of deploying these solutions at scale in data centers. The Hub provides selected companies with support for data center pilot and product validation activities, along with confirmation of performance criteria for large-scale adoption by members. Additionally, the Hub offers access to funding for pilot and validation activities through a combination of Hub-originated funds, private investment, and public grants.
The rapid growth of AI computing is creating an urgent demand for tens to hundreds of megawatts per site that grid utilities cannot satisfy. Linear Generators, a clean, efficient, and compact power generation technology, can be deployed on data center sites to produce on-demand power using locally available renewable fuels and conventional grid gas. This innovation is designed to help solve the problem of insufficient grid power supply for data centers.
Linear Generators produce electricity from a precisely controlled flameless reaction between fuel and air, driving magnets through the coils of a pair of linear electrical machines without the mechanical complexity, exhaust emissions, and inefficiencies of a conventional engine. The result is a clean, efficient, compact, and dispatchable electrical power generator that can operate on natural gas, biogas, and a wide range of other gas and liquid fuels. Thousands of Linear Generators are already in commercial use in the US, powering a wide range of commercial and industrial applications, and the growth of this new technology category is expected to accelerate.
intelliGEN Group aims to reduce the cost of Linear Generator products through streamlined power efficiency and the use of automotive manufacturing methods. High-volume production is enabled by its global supply chain and manufacturing partnerships. The company's commercialisation is focused on data centers and industrial power generation, where the cost effectiveness and power efficiency of intelliGEN's Linear Generator technology, which produces clean dispatchable power alongside solar, wind, and battery technologies, is expected to offer the lowest levelized cost of energy.
The CEO of the Net Zero Innovation Hub for Data Centers, Alberto Ravagni, expressed his excitement about the Hub's collaboration with intelliGEN.
Sam Cockerill, CEO of intelliGEN Linear Generators (Group) Ltd, highlighted the pressing need for more distributed generation to close the gap between electrical power demand for data centers and grid supply.
