SHIBUYA-KU, TOKYO, JAPAN, October 19, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- HULINKS Inc., a developer and distributor of scientific software, has announced the upcoming release of TFCalc V5.0, a major upgrade to its optical thin-film design software. The new version, set to launch on October 27, 2026, features a redesigned user interface and enhanced analysis and visualization capabilities, making it more intuitive for thin-film designers while retaining the established calculation methods and numerical behavior of the previous version.
Originally developed by Software Spectra, Inc., in the U.S., TFCalc has been a trusted industry-standard tool for optical thin-film design. HULINKS has taken over the development and business operations, ensuring the software continues to meet the needs of academic institutions and corporate R&D teams worldwide. TFCalc is known for its high computational accuracy and analytical capabilities, supporting numerous research papers and conference presentations.
TFCalc V5.0 introduces several key features to improve the user experience and functionality. The software now offers a multi-document interface (MDI), allowing users to manage multiple thin-film designs in a single window. The tabular windows handling layer configurations, targets, and material data have been revamped to offer a seamless, Excel-like experience. Additionally, the user interface is now bilingual, supporting both English and Japanese.
Enhanced analysis and visualization capabilities are another highlight of TFCalc V5.0. Users can now view spectral characteristics across wavelength and incident angles using new 3D surface plots, making it easier to examine how optical properties vary with these parameters. The software also supports mouse-driven rotation, zoom, and pan, as well as direct image export, printing, and clipboard copying. For those who prefer 2D plots, the software has been improved to offer better readability with color-coded saved results and real-time plot coordinate displays at the mouse cursor. Users can also display custom reference lines on plots.
In terms of performance, TFCalc V5.0 offers dual calculation modes: speed-priority and accuracy-priority. Users can easily switch between these modes to suit their specific needs, whether for exploratory design work or final validation. The application has been migrated to a 64-bit architecture, enabling more stable operation during memory-intensive processing.
HULINKS is also introducing special academic pricing for universities, technical colleges, and public research institutions. Faculty, researchers, and students affiliated with these institutions can take advantage of discounted pricing. The software can be installed alongside TFCalc V3.6, and it supports reading and saving files in the V3.6 format.
The system requirements for TFCalc V5.0 include support for Windows 11. For 3D plotting features, a graphics environment supporting OpenGL 3.2 or later is required. The new purchase price for a commercial license is USD 1,650 per license. Upgrade pricing is available for existing V3.5 and V3.6 users.
