Huawei Unveils Peerium Computing Architecture for AI Era

News related to:Huawei · 1 min read

Huawei has unveiled a groundbreaking computing architecture called Peerium, designed to meet the demands of the AI era. This new architecture enables a million processors to work as one computer, marking a significant advancement in computational technology.

The Peerium Computing Architecture achieves this through nested parallelism, unified memory addressing, and peer interconnect. It introduces a novel approach to parallel computing, breaking away from the traditional Turing paradigm. By extending the von Neumann single-machine architecture and overturning the master-slave architecture, Peerium aims to make a million processors function as a single, powerful computing entity.

At the heart of the Peerium Architecture is UnifiedBus (UB), a high-speed interconnect technology built on a single open protocol. UB connects CPUs, NPUs, memory, SSDs, network interface cards (NICs), and switches, enabling seamless communication across compute, storage, and networking. This technology is crucial for achieving the strong scaling required by the Peerium Architecture.

The first-generation products built on the Peerium Computing Architecture are the Atlas 950 SuperPoD and SuperPoD-based SuperClusters. An Atlas 950 SuperCluster with 256,000 cards is currently in deployment, while the Atlas 960 system, based on near-packaged optics (NPO), is undergoing testing.

Eric Xu, Huawei's Rotating Chairman, stated, "In the AI era, Huawei is leveraging the Peerium Computing Architecture to continuously build SuperPoDs and SuperPod-based SuperClusters that meet customer needs for training and inference. This will make computing power available everywhere and intelligence accessible to all."

Huawei's innovation in computing architecture positions the company as a leader in the AI revolution. The Peerium Computing Architecture and its associated products are expected to drive advancements in various fields, from data centers to edge computing, enhancing the capabilities of AI applications and services.
