GRANDVILLE, Mich., September 22, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- The Haunted Attraction Association has certified a record 74 haunted attractions as 2026 Top Haunts, marking a significant milestone in the industry. This recognition underscores the commitment of haunted attraction operators to maintaining high standards of safety, operations, and professionalism.
According to the association, each certified Top Haunt must meet a rigorous set of criteria, including completing the Certified Haunted Attraction Operator Seminar (C.H.A.O.S.) safety program, carrying at least $1 million in general liability insurance, being registered and inspected by state and local authorities, maintaining a documented emergency plan, providing an employee handbook to all staff, and operating as a commercial haunted attraction with a pattern of continual reinvestment.
The Top Haunts are categorized into three levels based on years in operation and annual attendance: - Iconic (Platinum) Haunts: 56 attractions, each with 10+ years of operation and 10,000+ annual guests. - Gold Haunts: 10 attractions, each with 5+ years of operation and 5,000+ annual guests. - Silver Haunts: 8 attractions, each with 2+ years of operation and 3,000+ annual guests.
This year's honorees span 27 states, showcasing the diversity and creativity of the haunted attraction industry. From large-scale multi-attraction scream parks to community haunts, the 2026 Top Haunts include haunted houses, hayrides, trails, and seasonal Halloween events.
Among the Iconic (Platinum) Haunts is the 13th Floor Chicago Haunted House, which has been a staple in the industry for over a decade. Other notable honorees include the 13th Floor Denver Haunted House, Castle of Chaos in Utah, and the Haunted Hunt Club Farm in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
