MESQUITE, NV, UNITED STATES, October 19, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Grant Zahajko Auctions, based in Mesquite, Nevada, is set to host its first online Sports Cards & Memorabilia auction from its new gallery home. The auction, scheduled for October 28, will feature over 400 lots of rare and highly desirable sports collectibles.
Among the highlights is a Mickey Cochrane single-signed baseball, inscribed by the Hall of Fame catcher while on a hunting trip. The item, which includes a photo of the hunters, is estimated to fetch between $2,000 and $3,000.
The most intriguing lot, however, is a Knute Rockne three-page handwritten letter with diagrammed plays, penned in 1916 and in the same family for over a century. Rockne, the legendary football player and coach at the University of Notre Dame, wrote the letter following a request for some plays from a high school coach. The letter is estimated to bring between $15,000 and $20,000.
Grant Zahajko Auctions, which was headquartered in Davenport, Washington, for over 10 years, is now making a splash at its new home in Mesquite. The auction will be held online from the firm’s new gallery, located at 1624 Riverstone Bend, Unit 604.
Other notable items in the auction include a Babe Ruth 1933 Goudey #149 card, graded PSA 3, with an estimate of $14,000 to $18,000; a Lou Gehrig 1933 Goudey #92 card, graded PSA 2, expected to bring $3,500 to $4,500; and authentic government postcards from 1935, one signed by Honus Wagner and Arky Vaughn (Auto Grade 9, estimate: $2,000 to $3,000) and Ty Cobb (Auto Grade 8, estimate: $1,200 to $1,600), both authenticated and encapsulated by Beckett Authentication Services.
The auction will also feature a variety of basketball cards, such as a Michael Jordan 1998 Fleer Tradition #6 Electrifying card, graded PSA 8, with an estimate of $4,000 to $6,000; a 1998 Skybox Premium That’s Jam 4 Shaquille O’Neal card, graded PSA 9, expected to bring $3,500 to $4,500; and a Kobe Bryant 1996 Skybox E-X2000 Star Date 2000 #3 card, graded PSA 8, with an estimate of $2,500 to $3,000.
In the boxing section, an 8-inch by 10-inch black-and-white photograph from Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier’s legendary Fight of the Century in 1971, signed by both fighters and showing Ali dodging one of Frazier’s devastating left hooks, is expected to change hands for $500 to $800. A 5-inch by 4 ½-inch black and white photograph signed by Joe Louis, depicting the champ in a jacket and bow tie carrying a bag of groceries, carries an estimate of $500 to $700.
The auction will have a start time of 9 a.m. Pacific Time. A preview will be held live at the Mesquite gallery by appointment only.
