MALTA, N.Y., Sept. 17, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- GlobalFoundries and Marvell have expanded their collaboration to increase production capacity for next-generation optical connectivity solutions. The agreement, which builds on a decade-long partnership, aims to support the growing demand for high-speed interconnects in modern AI data centers.
The expanded collaboration will focus on increasing capacity for GlobalFoundries' silicon germanium (SiGe) technology at its Burlington, Vermont, facility. This technology is crucial for next-generation pluggable optical transceivers, Near-Packaged Optics (NPO), and Co-packaged Optics (CPO). These components are essential for moving data efficiently within AI data centers, where performance depends on both accelerators and high-speed interconnects.
The expanded agreement with GlobalFoundries will ensure that Marvell has the necessary SiGe technology and manufacturing capacity to support its growing requirements.
Shankaran Janardhanan, senior vice president of Photonics & RF businesses at GlobalFoundries, emphasized the importance of SiGe technology in enabling high-speed optical networking for AI infrastructure.
GlobalFoundries has been manufacturing advanced SiGe technology for over a decade and continues to co-integrate SiGe, silicon photonics, and advanced packaging for new optical connectivity architectures. The company's SiGe technology portfolio supports 200G-per-lane optical connectivity and is designed to address higher-speed generations as AI and cloud data center bandwidth requirements continue to grow.
The agreement is expected to add significant capacity to support Marvell's growing needs. As AI systems scale, the efficient movement of data becomes increasingly critical to overall performance. This collaboration between GlobalFoundries and Marvell underscores the importance of optical networking technologies in enabling AI and cloud infrastructure at scale.
