GEIOS Technologies, a company developing systems to convert subsurface heat into locally delivered power, has seen its innovative approach gain recognition through a co-authored lecture at the International Academy of Hydrogeology (IAH) 2026 conference in Budapest. The lecture, delivered on September 15, 2026, by GEIOS partner Professor Ladislaus Rybach, addressed the challenges and potential of deep geothermal power.

Professor Rybach, known for his 1976 study that quantified the vast and constant heat generated by the natural radioactive decay of uranium, thorium, and potassium in deep crystalline rock, presented a solution to one of geothermal energy's oldest problems: the difficulty in extracting heat from rock that is typically impermeable.

The presentation introduced how nanotechnology is beginning to change this equation. GEIOS Technologies, led by its founder Abdelmoumen Shad Serroune, has developed technology that reduces silica scaling by up to 65.08% and achieves 94.05% corrosion protection efficiency. These advancements are crucial for reducing the persistent cost drivers in geothermal operations. The technology has been peer-reviewed and published in Geothermics 142 (2026) 103810, co-authored with research partners.

Serroune, CEO and Founder of GEIOS Technologies, emphasized the significance of their approach.

The technology has been lab-tested and patented, with field trials underway at three geothermal projects, including two on existing wells and one greenfield project. The results will be published as data becomes available, marking a significant step forward in the practical application of nanotechnology in geothermal energy.

The lecture at IAH 2026 underscores the growing importance of geothermal energy in meeting the world's growing electricity demands. By leveraging nanotechnology, GEIOS Technologies is paving the way for more efficient and sustainable geothermal power generation, addressing a critical challenge in the renewable energy sector.
