Florida American Legion Posts honored for celebrating America’s 250th anniversary

At the American Legion's National Convention in Louisville, Kentucky, seven Florida American Legion Posts were honored for their efforts in celebrating America’s 250th anniversary, according to 1 Nation, a national nonprofit dedicated to building common ground across America.
The Sunshine State 250 Showdown, a statewide contest launched in partnership with The American Legion, Department of Florida, drew 76 American Legion Posts across the state. These Posts were encouraged to organize community events centered around the milestone anniversary.
First place went to Post 103 in Punta Gorda, which hosted a unique event on Flag Day, featuring a drone light show over Laishley Park. The event attracted several thousand residents, the mayor, local civic and veterans' organizations, and media coverage.
Second place was awarded to Post 402 in Panama City Beach for its Pier Park parade, which included founding father reenactors and a memorial ceremony at Aaron Bessant Park. Third place went to Post 9 in Jacksonville, which organized "Boots on the Ground," a large-scale community activation that raised funds for various charitable causes.
Four additional Posts, Post 157 in Margate, Post 252 in Seminole, Post 54 in Fernandina Beach, and Post 224 in Madison, were recognized for their creativity and efforts in engaging their communities.
"Seeing Florida's American Legion Posts step forward to celebrate this historic 250th milestone has been inspiring," said 1 Nation President Charles Fowler. "These men and women, who have already served our nation nobly, have once again rallied their communities around a shared love of America."
The winners were presented with recognition and a total prize pool exceeding $20,000 in the form of significant Post improvements and mission-aligned upgrades. The event took place during the Americanism Commission's meeting at the National Convention, where each winning Post was honored for its contribution to the celebration of America's 250th anniversary.
