Field of Screams Maryland Postpones Reopening Until 2027

OLNEY, Md., Sept. 24, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Field of Screams Maryland, a 24-year-old haunted attraction in Maryland, has announced it will postpone its reopening until 2027. The event, which has been ranked the best haunted attraction in the United States by USA TODAY's 10 Best Readers' Choice Awards, will undergo a significant transformation to enhance its offerings and support a local community organization.

The reimagined Field of Screams Maryland will feature 22 all-new stations, an updated haunted house, and improved infrastructure, lighting, and sound systems. The event, which has been a cornerstone of the Olney Boys and Girls Community Sports Association (OBGC) for years, has raised over $3.5 million to help offset the rising costs of running a large youth sports organization and to fund scholarships for disadvantaged families.

John Dixon, Director of Operations for Field of Screams Maryland, expressed the team's pride in the redesign but acknowledged the disappointment of the postponement.

The event plans to reopen once OBGC's Special Exception is amended to expressly include fundraising events on the property. Steelhead Events and Productions (SHP), the event manager, thanked Montgomery County's County Attorney's Office, Department of Permitting Services, and the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission for their guidance and professionalism over the last year. SHP also thanked the Olney community for its patience and continued enthusiasm.
