Ernexa Therapeutics Appoints Oncology Expert Robert J. Spiegel to Board

Ernexa Therapeutics, a biotechnology company developing innovative cell therapies for advanced cancers, has appointed Robert J. Spiegel, M.D., FACP, to its Board of Directors. Dr. Spiegel brings extensive experience in oncology, clinical development, and regulatory strategy, having held senior roles at Schering-Plough and PTC Therapeutics.
Dr. Spiegel's appointment is seen as a significant boost to Ernexa’s board, as the company advances its lead cell therapy candidate, ERNA-101, toward clinical development. ERNA-101 is designed to activate and regulate the immune system’s response to recognize and attack cancer cells, with a primary focus on ovarian cancer and other difficult-to-treat malignancies.

Dr. Spiegel’s background includes over 25 years at Schering-Plough Research Institute, where he held increasingly senior positions, culminating in his role as Chief Medical Officer from 1998 to 2009. He later served as Chief Medical Officer of PTC Therapeutics from 2014 to 2016 and is currently Founder and Principal of Spiegel Consulting LLC and Associate Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College.

Ernexa’s core technology focuses on engineering induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and transforming them into induced mesenchymal stem cells (iMSCs). The company’s allogeneic synthetic iMSCs are designed to provide a scalable, off-the-shelf treatment approach without the need for patient-specific cell harvesting. The initial development focus is on ovarian cancer, where significant unmet need remains for new therapeutic approaches capable of generating durable responses.
