The Epilepsy Foundation of Kentuckiana is inviting the community to join in a month-long celebration of awareness, support, and education during National Epilepsy Awareness Month. The organization aims to connect individuals living with epilepsy, families, caregivers, healthcare professionals, advocates, and supporters from across Kentucky to raise awareness, promote understanding, and ensure that no one impacted by epilepsy feels alone.
Epilepsy affects nearly 1 in 26 people who will develop the condition in their lifetime. National Epilepsy Awareness Month serves as an opportunity to increase public understanding, reduce stigma, and connect people to critical resources and support.
The month-long celebration includes several events designed to engage and educate the public. On November 1, the foundation will light the Big Four Bridge in Louisville in purple, encouraging landmarks, businesses, homes, and communities to join in by shining purple in recognition of National Epilepsy Awareness Month. The foundation will also host a 26 Miles for Epilepsy Awareness Challenge, encouraging participants to complete 26 miles in any form of physical activity they choose, while also raising funds to support the mission of the Epilepsy Foundation of Kentuckiana.
On November 6, the Expressions of Hope Gala at Angel's Envy Bourbon Club will be one of the Foundation's premier fundraising events. The gala brings together supporters, partners, community leaders, and families for an inspiring evening of celebration, storytelling, and impact. The Epilepsy Empowerment Statewide Conference, held on November 14 at the Hilton Garden Inn Airport, will connect individuals living with epilepsy, caregivers, medical professionals, educators, and advocates through expert-led sessions focused on treatment, wellness, resources, self-advocacy, and community support.
On November 19, the Lexington National Epilepsy Awareness Month Proclamation Signing will take place at the Government Center Lobby, where community members and advocates will join Mayor Linda Gorton in recognizing November as National Epilepsy Awareness Month and reinforcing the importance of epilepsy awareness throughout the Commonwealth. Additionally, the foundation will celebrate and recognize two outstanding Kentucky veterans on the same day, highlighting the connection between service, resilience, and community support.
To further promote awareness, the Epilepsy Foundation of Kentuckiana will offer two free virtual Seizure First Aid Certification and Training classes, as well as special National Epilepsy Awareness Month social media campaigns and community engagement activities. New episodes of the foundation's podcast, Between 2 Sparks, will also feature conversations that educate, inspire, and connect listeners to the epilepsy community.
The foundation encourages individuals, families, organizations, and community leaders across Kentucky to get involved, share their stories, participate in events, and help spread awareness throughout November. For event details, registration information, and ways to support National Epilepsy Awareness Month, visit the foundation's website at www.efky.org or follow them on social media.
Through these efforts, the Epilepsy Foundation of Kentuckiana aims to spark hope for every person and family navigating life with epilepsy, ensuring that no one feels alone in their journey.
