CU*SOUTH, a 100% credit union-owned company, has partnered with Strategic Technology Advisors (STA) to expand its offerings and support for credit unions. The partnership aims to provide credit unions with additional executive-level guidance and compliance expertise, complementing CU*SOUTH’s existing IT Managed Services.
STA offers fractional or virtual chief information officer (CIO), chief technology officer (CTO), and chief information security officer (CISO) services. These services include establishing technology priorities, guiding solution selection and supporting implementation. The STA team also provides a range of IT general controls audits, AI strategy and governance, penetration testing, vulnerability assessments, business continuity and incident response planning.
CU*SOUTH’s Information Systems & Technology Senior Vice President, Dave Roberts, emphasized the importance of having experts who understand both the technology and the realities of running a credit union.
STA’s CEO, Matt Sawtell, and Associate Partner, Jim Lawrence, worked together in the industry for more than 20 years before launching STA as an independent CUSO. Lawrence managed data centers supporting core processing services, while Sawtell supported more than 300 credit unions across six time zones with IT strategy and compliance.
As credit unions plan their 2027 budgets, STA can help evaluate technology investments against operational priorities, security needs, and available resources. The partnership connects credit unions with additional advisory and assessment expertise as their needs evolve.
