CHICAGO, Sept. 24, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Packed with Purpose, a company that specializes in meaningful business gifting, has released new findings from a Harris Poll survey that reveal the importance of thoughtfulness and impact in corporate gifting. The research, which surveyed 2,007 U.S. adults, including 1,133 recipients of corporate gifts, found that recipients prioritize gifts that show genuine thoughtfulness and have a positive social impact over expensive, generic items.

The survey revealed that 85% of recipients believe the thought behind a gift is more important than its cost. Additionally, 84% would prefer an inexpensive, useful gift over an expensive, impractical one. A well-thought-out gift can significantly enhance the recipient's perception of the sender. Eighty-nine percent of recipients said a thoughtful corporate gift made them think more highly of the person or company that sent it.

However, the stakes are higher when a corporate gift fails to meet expectations. Fifty-nine percent of recipients said they would rather receive nothing at all than a generic, impersonal gift. Moreover, 15% reported receiving a corporate gift that felt insulting, and 17% received a gift that made them think less of the sender.

Gifts that give back to charitable causes or have a positive social impact are particularly effective in strengthening business relationships. These gifts were associated with 3.2 times the odds of strengthening a relationship, compared to gifts chosen specifically for the recipient and 1.6 times the odds of gifts that reflect the recipient's interests or values.

The findings also highlight generational differences in what makes a corporate gift memorable. Recipients aged 55 and older are more likely to think more highly of a company that sends a thoughtful gift, with 93% of this age group agreeing. In contrast, recipients aged 35 to 44 are more likely to find a cause-aligned gift more memorable than a generic one, with 85% of this age group agreeing.

The report, titled "2026 State of Corporate Gifting," provides a comprehensive breakdown of what recipients told Packed with Purpose about the gifts they keep, the gifts they regret, and what separates the two. It includes a rating of gift attributes, full data comparisons by age group, and insights on where employee and client gifting diverge.
