SOMERSET, Ky., Oct. 13, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Continental Refining Company (CRC) has announced plans to expand its biodiesel production capabilities, marking a significant step in the company's growth trajectory. The expansion, set to be completed by November 15, will double the capacity of CRC’s biodiesel production facility, which has remained fully operational since a July fire that damaged the soybean processing portion of CRC’s 77-acre agricultural and petroleum industrial complex in Somerset.
The July 5 fire, which occurred while the soybean operation was idled, caused significant damage to the soybean processing area. CRC has since kept the soybean plant offline while evaluating options to repair and restart the facility. The company is also considering alternative uses for the soybean plant, including seeking a regional partner to operate its grain elevator.
Despite the setback, CRC’s biodiesel production and fuel terminal operations have continued without interruption. The company has embarked on a capital expansion that will more than double the biodiesel production capacity. This expansion is part of CRC’s ongoing efforts to support American agriculture and promote U.S.-made products, particularly in the face of ongoing geopolitical uncertainties.
In September, CRC introduced P51, a higher-blend biodiesel product that has seen strong early success in the region. This product was tested extensively in the equipment fleet of White Oil Company, a CRC affiliate, before being introduced to the broader market. P51 is designed to provide enhanced performance and meet the growing demand for high-quality biodiesel.
CRC remains committed to expanding its agriculture-based fuel products into new markets. The company is also in the process of adding a rail spur connecting its biodiesel production facility to the Norfolk Southern main line, enabling it to receive and ship biofuel nationwide. This move will further enhance CRC’s regional reach and distribution capabilities.
The expansion of CRC’s biodiesel production facility is expected to bring significant benefits to the local economy and the broader renewable energy industry. As the company continues to grow, it will likely play an increasingly important role in the transition to cleaner, more sustainable energy sources.
