Consumers Energy Launches Crew Check for Natural Gas Worker Identification

JACKSON, Mich., Sept. 1, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Consumers Energy has launched a new online tool called Crew Check to help customers in southeast Michigan identify natural gas workers in their neighborhoods, enhancing safety and transparency.

The online feature enables residents to input an address to verify if Consumers Energy crews are working in the area. Users can obtain a vehicle identification number, and in some cases, a license plate number, to quickly identify crews. If multiple vehicles are present, the tool can confirm ongoing work and provide tips to authenticate the identity of crew members.

"Customers now have the ability to easily check for work being done in their neighborhoods," said LeeRoy Wells, Jr., president of gas delivery at Consumers Energy. "This not only gives them insight into ongoing activities but also ensures an added layer of safety and security by allowing them to recognize the presence of crew members."

While Crew Check can confirm all natural gas work performed by Consumers Energy crews, it may not always be able to provide confirmation for third-party contractors or when specific vehicle locations are not accessible. The tool will not reveal exact addresses or street names.

Available across southeast Michigan, including Flint, Jackson, Lansing, and Kalamazoo regions, Crew Check can be accessed at CrewCheck.ConsumersEnergy.com. Alternatively, customers can call 1-800-760-3295 to confirm the identity of crew members 24 hours a day.
