Colorado Springs Launches Civility Pledge to Address National Crisis

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Sept. 23, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- On September 30, Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade and the city council president, along with business leaders and citizens, will gather at the Penrose House Garden Pavilion to launch a movement aimed at reversing the national crisis of incivility. The event, organized by Reclaiming Civility LLC, will see the signing of the Inaugural Civility Pledge, a commitment to civility in public and professional life.

Founded by Lori Leander and Lisa Brandt, Reclaiming Civility LLC is a Colorado Springs-based organization dedicated to teaching the mindset and skills of civility. The pledge, which addresses the growing divide and exhaustion among Americans, is part of a broader effort to foster a more respectful and constructive public discourse.

According to the Reagan Institute, more than 70 percent of Americans actively want to help restore civility to public life. The social and economic costs of division are significant, with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) estimating that $2.6 billion is lost daily in American workplaces due to incivility. Additionally, a survey by More in Common reveals that 27 percent of Americans are currently estranged from a family member, and 86 percent report feeling exhausted by national political division.

The movement will be officially launched with a keynote address by Alexandra Hudson, author of "The Soul of Civility" and a contributor to various media outlets including The Wall Street Journal, CBS, PBS, TIME, POLITICO, and Newsweek. Mayor Mobolade and Council leadership will sign the pledge alongside the inaugural class of signatories.

The Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum will play a crucial role in preserving the signed pledges into perpetuity. The museum will work to share these pledges through a variety of programs and exhibits, ensuring that the commitment to civility remains a visible part of the city's cultural landscape.
