Central European University (CEU) is relaunching its business master’s programs for the data and AI era, starting with the 2027/28 academic year. The MS in Finance will transform into the MS in Finance, Data & AI, while the MS in Business Analytics will become the MS in Business Data Analytics & AI. This change reflects a broader transformation in professional work, where AI is increasingly performing tasks that were traditionally part of junior professionals' learning processes.
Across finance, analytics, and other knowledge-intensive fields, AI can now write code, analyze data, build models, and perform initial research. This shift is changing the value of professional work from simply producing an analysis to asking the right questions, understanding context, and exercising judgment. However, this also presents a challenge for universities. Many tasks traditionally learned by junior professionals are now being taken over by AI, and higher education needs to ensure that students can benefit from AI while developing the underlying expertise required to understand and challenge its outputs.
CEU’s response is to integrate AI with disciplinary expertise, strong analytical foundations, and real-world application. The MS in Finance, Data & AI combines rigorous finance education with data analysis and practical AI literacy. Students will develop expertise in areas such as corporate finance, banking, investments, financial markets, and risk management, while also strengthening their ability to work with data and AI-supported decision-making.
The MS in Business Data Analytics & AI reflects the evolution of business analytics itself, bringing together statistics, applied data science, and AI with business context and real-world problem-solving. Students will learn not only how to use advanced technologies but also how to determine whether an analytical approach is appropriate, evaluate its results, and translate them into meaningful organizational decisions.
Both programs are built around a common principle: technological capability becomes valuable when it is combined with disciplinary expertise and the ability to evaluate evidence critically. This approach extends beyond the classroom. Through CEU’s Capstone Projects, students will work on real challenges submitted by companies and other organizations, applying their academic and technical knowledge to practical finance and analytics problems.
CEU’s broader commitment to connecting research-led education with the changing demands of professional practice is evident in the renewed programs. The objective is to prepare graduates who understand their field, can work confidently with data and AI, know when to challenge technology, and retain responsibility for the decisions they make. Applications for the 2027/28 academic year are now open for the MS in Finance, Data & AI and the MS in Business Data Analytics & AI at Central European University in Vienna.
Founded in 1991 and based in Vienna since 2019, CEU is a non-profit private university with around 1,500 students from more than 100 countries pursuing bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs accredited both in the United States and Austria. With more than 200 outstanding faculty members and researchers, CEU maintains an excellent student-to-faculty ratio and consistent external recognition through prestigious research awards and third-party funded projects.
