TORONTO, Oct. 16, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- The Ontario Energy Board (OEB) announced significant changes to electricity pricing for households, small businesses, and farms as of November 1, 2026. These changes include adjustments to Time-of-Use (TOU) pricing, the Ontario Electricity Rebate (OER), and the Tiered pricing plan.
Starting November 1, 2026, the OER will be reduced to 15.7%. This rebate directly impacts residential, small business, and farm customers by decreasing their electricity bills. For a typical residential customer using 700 kWh of electricity per month, the OER will save approximately $23.00 each month. The OEB provides a detailed bill calculator to help customers understand the impact of these changes.
The TOU pricing for winter hours will also be adjusted. Table 1 outlines the new TOU prices and the hours to which they apply. These changes are designed to better align with the varying electricity usage patterns during different times of the day and season.
Additionally, the Tiered pricing plan will see an increase in the kilowatt-hour thresholds. Starting November 1, 2026, residential customers will receive an extra 400 kWh of electricity at a lower price during the winter months. This seasonal adjustment aims to provide more affordable electricity during colder periods when heating demands are higher.
To assist customers in making informed decisions about their electricity plans, the OEB has an online bill calculator available at oeb.ca/choice. This tool allows users to compare different pricing plans and understand the financial implications of each.
The OEB also implements a winter disconnection ban, effective from November 15, 2026, to April 30, 2027. This ban prevents electricity distributors from disconnecting residential customers for non-payment during the winter months, ensuring that households have reliable access to electricity during colder periods.
